SATTARI: The residents of Sattari have demanded that the government grant them full ownership of Gavthan and Alvara land in Class A category.
“We demand full ownership of Gavthan and Alvara land in Class A category. We have already submitted around 2,500 files to the government two years ago. We spent a lot of money on the files which has gone to the Revenue Department as revenue collection. Till date the government has not given us the ownership of Gavthan and Alvara land,” they said.
On Sunday, the Sattari residents held a special meeting to discuss the Bhumiputra Adhikarini Bill and the ownership issue of Alvara and Gavthan land. Around 100 locals were present at the meeting.
They accused the Government of failing to grant the ownership of Alvara and Gavthan land despite submitting the all documents.
“Two years ago, we submitted the files to the government pertaining to Alvara land issue. However, the government asked us to provide more documents regarding the issue, which we don’t possess. We feel that the government is not interested in solving our Alvara land issue. The government wants to collect revenue from us in the name of Alvara land.
The government has succeeded in its plan of collecting revenue from us,” claimed Vishwesh Prabhu, social worker.
“We will write to the Chief Minister suggesting some changes in the Goa Bhumiputra Adhikarini Bill. This bill will give ownership rights to us,” said Adv Ganpat Gaonkar.
Panch Rajesh Gaonkar said, “While granting ownership of our houses through the Goa Bhumiputra Adhikarini Bill, the Government should not charge the market price of land because we cannot afford it due to our poor financial condition. The government should charge the minimum price.
“We demand that the government grant us full ownership of Alvara, Gavthan, Kumeri and the forest land,” said Ranjitsing Rane, social worker.
