Sattari taluka residents extend support to Shel Melauli locals against IIT project

To hold campaign wherein around 20,000 signatures will be submitted to the government against the project; Demand that govt give them the Alvara land ownership

SATTARI: Extending their support to Shel Melauli villagers in opposing the IIT project, the locals from all villages in Sattari taluka will hold a signature campaign wherein around 20,000 signatures will be submitted to the Government against the project.

The farmers, senior citizens, and well known residents from Sattari held a special meeting to discuss issues such as the IIT project and the long pending ownership of Alvara and Kumeri land.

Around 200 people attended the meeting held in Sateri Temple premises in Velus on Sunday.

“The Goa Government has failed completely in providing the ownership of Alvara and Kumeri land. We have submitted many representations and the memorandums to the government with regards to the ownership of Alvara and Kumeri land. Last year, all Alvara land holders from across Goa submitted the Alvara land files to the government for ownership. But the Government failed in providing the land ownership. We demand that the government give the Alvara land ownership that is Class ‘A’ category,” Advocate Ganpat Gaonkar demanded.

“Ninety per cent people from Sattari don’t have ownership of the land where they are residing and cultivating the crops for the last five generations. Now, we demand that the Government to give us land ownership,” Rajesh Gaonkar, a local requested.

“If the government fails to provide the ownership of Alvara land then we will take to the streets in large number against Chief Minister Pramod Sawant-led government. We will teach a lesson to the government in coming ZP and municipal council elections, social worker Ranjitsing Rane warned.
