VALPOI: The Sattari Jagruk Yuva Manch has threatened to launch an agitation if the condition of roads in Valpoi doesn’t improve ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi.
Members of the youth organisation, led by its President Vishwesh Prabhu, met PWD Assistant Engineer (roads) A Mahajan and discussed about the condition of roads in Valpoi.
Alleging that the department has failed to carry out pre-monsoon works, they said commuters have been facing a lot of trouble due to the bad condition of the roads in the town.
Mahajan said the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation had repaired the roads under a beautification project a decade ago and since then the roads have not been handed over to the Valpoi Municipal council.
“A proposal for repair work worth Rs 4 crore has been forwarded to the department concerned, but waiting for approval from the government,” he added.
After his meeting, Prabhu informed that Mahajan has assured the youth delegation of repairing the roads before the Ganesh festival.
