Saurabh Raikar youngest PhD holder in Engineering from Goa University

PANJIM: Saurabh Laximan Raikar has achieved the remarkable feat of becoming the youngest PhD holder in Engineering section from Goa University.

He has carried out his research work in thesis titled ‘Investigative Studies in Reliability Based Design Approach for Mechanical Systems’ in Goa Engineering College, Farmagudi, affiliated to Goa University under the guidance of Dr Rajesh Prabhu Gaonkar, Professor, Indian Institute of Technology, Goa.

Raikar conducted extensive studies on stress-strength interference theory and optimisation using Jaya algorithm. The models and methodologies developed by him can be used in estimating reliability in wide applications involving glass fibres, jute fibres, ceramics and other brittle material, concrete in construction industry, solder joints in automotive circuits, etc.

Notably, some of Raikar’s findings have surpassed those of foreign researchers, solidifying his position as a distinguished contributor in the field. He gives the major credit of his work to his guide who provided unwavering support, valuable advice, and constructive suggestions at every step of his research work. He expressed gratitude to the teaching and non-teaching staff of Goa College of Engineering and Goa University for their assistance and motivation throughout his academic journey.

Currently Raikar is serving as an Assistant Professor in the Mechanical Engineering, Department of Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda.
