The Save Mhadei Save Goa delegation called on Goa Governor P.S. Sreedharan Pillai to seek his intervention in the Mhadei issue. The delegation requested the Governor to bring a solution in favour of Goa at Rajbhavan on Wednesday.
Prashant Naik, leader of the Front said that they informed the Governor that the State government was not doing enough to stop the Mhadei river diversion. There are so many things that could have been done by the State government. For example, the DPR submitted by Karnataka which was approved by the Centre should have been challenged in the Supreme Court, Naik stated.
Convenor of the front Prajal Sakhardande informed that there will be corner meetings in all villages so locals have a say in the Mhadei movement. “A related case has been filed by the ‘Mhadei Bachao Abhiyan’ before the Supreme Court which is on a strong footing, and now there is a need to strengthen the people’s movement to ensure that the Mhadei river continues to flow into Goa,” said Sakhardande.
The delegation also submitted a memorandum and unanimous resolution which was passed on Opinion Poll Day with thousands of signatures asking for immediate withdrawal of DPR approved to divert Mhadei.
