PANJIM: A group of social activists and representatives of different political parties from the State staged a protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on Sunday demanding that the Central government demolish the alleged illegal bungalow constructed in the heritage precincts at Old Goa.
The group held placards with ‘Goa has spoken, save our heritage’ and ‘Save Old Goa, Save Goa’s Heritage’ written on them.
Activist Xencor Polgi, “We are here in Delhi to raise our voice.”
“The Goa government, ministers and MPs failed to fulfil our demand of clearing the illegal construction within the UNESCO recognised protected site at Old Goa. We request the Central government to listen to our plea and immediately demolish the illegal bungalow,” activist Xencor Polgi said addressing media persons at Jantar Mantar.
Activist Glen Cabral said, “We will continue to protest at all the concerned departments of State and Central government till the alleged illegal bungalow is demolished by the authorities.”
“We have come to Delhi to protest as we want to protect our heritage. Citizens and activists have gone on hunger strike but this heartless BJP government is acting deaf and dumb. Everyone knows if this illegal bungalow is not demolished then a wrong message will go to the entire world,” Adv Pratima Coutinho of Aam Aadmi Party said.
Activists Sayed Iftiaz and Anthony D’Silva were also among the protesting group in Delhi.
