MARGAO: Savio Lopes has returned to his home in Chinchinim after a hunger strike that saw the government assure to place the contentious medium of instruction (MoI) issue at the next Assembly session. The general secretary of Forum for Rights of Children to Education (FORCE) had been shifted to Grace Cardiac hospital, where he spent three nights under treatment.
Savio stated that he was feeling better after having to endure a state of ‘no energy’ due to his week-long abstinence. He stated that he was grateful to those who supported the agitation and that he felt loved. Over the last few days, thousands of people from across Goa visited him at the hospital and his residence.
Savio was not keen to react to the meeting held by FORCE’s detractors in Panjim and said the issue was the fight of parents from both districts.
Fisheries Minister Avertano Furtado, who held meetings with the Diocesan Society and government regarding the issue, reiterated his support to the demands of the protestors. He said he would ensure that the government fulfilled its assurances.
