PONDA: The Savoiverem villagers met the Electricity Executive Engineer Suresh Wadekar on Wednesday and complained that they have received exorbitant bills for June. The villagers said they were shocked at the heavy bills for the power they had never consumed.
Adv Satyawan Palkar said that every consumer in the village was issued exorbitant bill for June. Those who were receiving monthly bills of around Rs 200, Rs 600 to Rs 700 now received bills of Rs 1200, Rs 1800, 3000 and above.
As a proof of his claim, Adv Palkar produced bills of domestic consumers from Savoiverem ranging from Rs 8000 to Rs 10,000. “Six months ago meters of many villagers were replaced. Fault might have developed in these new meters leading to exorbitant bill amount,” he said.
The villagers also informed the engineer that they are facing frequent power failures; that the branches of trees leaning on power lines are not cleared leading to power failure during gusty winds.
Another villager said that some transformers in village are in a dilapidated condition. He also complained that his two TV sets and a washing machine were damaged due to power fluctuation.
After listening to the grievances, Wadekar reportedly assured to solve the problems of the villagers and directed his subordinates to look into complaints. He also assured to address the problem of frequent power failure.
