PORVORIM: Bicholim’s independent legislator Naresh Sawal today took on the government over the erratic water and power supply in his constituency.
“There is fear and anxiety in the minds of the people from Bicholim Taluka regarding the irregular water supply faced by the Bicholim, Mayem and Sanquelim people for the last several months. I need to know the steps the government will take in this regard,” he said raising a calling attention on the floor of the House.
He added, “for every government function the ministers and MLAs do not miss an opportunity to say that they would provide water 24×7, but the reality is totally different.”
Sawal said that Bicholim has several hospitals, schools and asked the government to imagine how they would be functioning without water.
“I am told the frequent power failures at the water treatment plants are the major reasons for the water shortage as pumps take hours to re-start,” he said.
“I want to ask the government which talks of development. Does it not have money buy generators at pumping stations? Last week there was no water in Bicholim and Mayem for four continuous days,” he said.
Sawal charged that while people of the state and GMC have no water for drinking the five stars hotel and casinos get regular supply.
The legislator also pointed out that Bicholim does not even have plumbers.
“There are several leakages and water is wasted through pipelines but nobody cares,” he said.
