Sawal quits as MLA, to join MGP on Sunday

PANJIM: Naresh Sawal on Wednesday resigned as member of the Goa Legislative Assembly and will join the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) to contest the February 4 polls on the lion symbol.

After tendering his resignation to Speaker Anant Shet, Sawal said he will join MGP on Sunday and will contest from Bicholim. “It was the wish and suggestion of all my workers and supporters that I join MGP and contest the elections,” Sawal said.
MGP general secretary Lavoo Mamledar also confirmed that Sawal will join MGP soon and that he will be a candidate of the MGP-GSM alliance in Bicholim.
BJP is likely to field former MLA Rajesh Patnekar, who recently rejoined the party, against Sawal. Patnekar had resigned from BJP prior to the 2012 Assembly elections and contested on a Congress ticket. Sawal, as an Independent candidate, had defeated Patnekar and BJP’s candidate.
