MARGAO: The Vice-Chairperson of Margao Municipal Council (MMC) Deepali Sawal took charge as the Acting Chairperson of MMC on Wednesday.
MMC Chairperson Lyndon Pereira has gone on leave officially. Sawal stated that she is taking charge for a week until Pereira returns from his leave and that she would continue even longer if he returns after a week. She however clarified that once Pereira returns she would go back to her role as Vice-Chairperson. She said it was important to take charge so that no works, especially matters related to the public, remain pending.
Her taking charge as Acting Chairperson however was celebrated by councillors on Tuesday. Former MMC Chairperson and present councillor Ghanshyam Shirodker criticised Pereira for the manner in which he had handled his leave.
