PANJIM:
The Goa government has finally decided to allow grocery shops selling vegetables, milk and other essential items to remain open as long as they want to function, based on their existing permissions , after a massive furore in the state, as people were denied access to household items for over 48 hours
Earlier, a senior Goa lawyer Advocate Rohit Braz D‘ Sa moved a letter petition in the High Court over scarcity of essential commodities, as resentment peaked in Goa , as locked down Goans desperately looked for essential daily items, with shops and stores not opening for the second consecutive day.
Adding to the clamour was Leader of the opposition Digambar Kamat, who approached the Governor of Goa for his intervention on the issue “I am confident that his intervention will bring relief to the people of Goa”
Meanwhile Civil Supplies Minister Govind Gawde has asked people not to panic. “The notified fair price shops and stores will be open on prescribed timings. DO not panic and crowd spaces”.
People across the state started sending messages, posting on social media and complaining to their public representatives as they ran out of milk and vegetables at home.
