Sawantwadi police is likely to seek the assistance of Goa police in connection with the explosives bound for Goa, which were seized during a check up (nakabandi) at Sasoli ghat in Dodamarg-Maharashtra.
It may be recalled that Sawantwadi police had set up the nakabandi in search of Dnyneshwar Lockre, who had escaped from the Sawantawadi jail.
During the nakabandi, Sawantwadi police stopped a pickup and found five boxes of gelatine sticks, 15 bags of ammonium nitrate and electric wire, all worth Rs 1.38 lakh.
Two persons, Anil Jagganath Dhopeshwarkar (50) from Akeri market and Premlal Dhanna (37) from Akeri and a native of Bilwad-Rajasthan were arrested in the connection.
The accused claimed that all explosives were brought from Akeri-Maharashtra and were being carried to Valpoi to be used for mining purpose.
The accused in this connection have been arrested under section 3 and 5 of Explosives Act and PI Avinash Kaldate is conducting further investigation under the guidance of SP Sunil Kolhe.
