OLD GOA: The Old Goa police on Sunday arrested a 50-year old native from Sawantwadi, for murdering Manohar Gaonkar from St Cruz.
Accused Vasant Naik, hailing from Sawantwadi, but currently residing in St Cruz, is under arrest and would be produced before Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Panjim for remand on Monday, said Agacaim Police Inspector Jivba Dalvi, who is currently holding additional charge of Old Goa police station.
“The deceased had multiple injuries on the forehead and had excess bleeding,” Dalvi said adding that police have also attached the weapon used for assault which is a paver.
Dalvi said that after initial enquiry it was revealed that there was a fight on Saturday night between Gaonkar and the accused. “The accuse Naik has also sustained forehead injuries. His interrogation is in progress,” he said.
While the motive of murder is still not known, police feel that the crime was under influence of alcohol.
The 51-year old Gaonkar was working as a carpenter, while Naik is a coconut plucker.
