PANJIM: The Director General of Police responding to queries about the steps the police are taking given the increase in tourism, he said that it is the job of the police to ensure that the government guidelines such as COVID related SOPs are followed and that on a daily basis, the cops are fining people for violations such as not wearing masks etc.
He then spoke about how the police have intensified their beach patrolling activity to ensure the security of tourists and locals alike. “Earlier we had a shortage of four-wheel-drive vehicles but we have recently purchased eight such ‘Thar’ vehicles, with which we can optimise our beach patrolling surveillance activity across Goa,” the DGP added.
He said the bulletproof ‘Fortuner’ vehicles for VVIP that the Chief Minister had recently spoken about had been sent to the factory for fitting the bulletproof parts and general check up.
When asked if the National Narcotics Bureau (NCB) was upstaging Goa Police with the number of high profile arrests in Goa, the DGP stated that such a perception is not the reality and that Goa Police has increased the number of drug busts recently.
