SC to hear Mickky’s plea on May 11

PANJIM: The application moved before the Supreme Court by absconding former rural development minister Francisco Mickky Pacheco seeking more time to surrender, will come up for hearing on May 11.

However, adding a twist to the tale, Adv Aires Rodrigues on Saturday filed an intervention application before the Supreme Court, stating that Pacheco, in his application to the Court, allegedly concealed the fact that he was absconding for the last three weeks, and that the Margao Judicial Magistrate First Class had issued a warrant of arrest against him.
Meanwhile, South Goa Additional Sessions Judge P V Sawaikar rejected Rodrigues’ application for impleadment in the criminal revision application filed by the Goa Government that challenged the April 22 order of search warrant issued by Margao JMFC Bosco Roberts directing the police to search for Mickky at 10 Akbar Road in Delhi, the official residence of Defence Minister.
Manohar Parrikar. Judge Sawaikar has fixed the matter for final arguments on May 20.
Rodrigues said he would not challenge Judge Sawaikar’s order as a search warrant now would be futile as Mickky, if he had been at 10 Akbar Road, would have moved out from there immediately.
Mickky, who until April 3 was rural development minister, is now absconding for over three weeks as he has to undergo a six-month jail sentence imposed by the Bombay High Court at Goa on July 17 last year for assaulting electricity department Junior Engineer Kapil Natekar in 2006. The Supreme Court on March 30 upheld the High Court order while dismissing the Special Leave Petition filed by Mickky.
