PANJIM: Goa Police on Wednesday issued advisory alerting the general public to not dial unverified codes, which could lead to hacking of bank account and social media as well.

“Cyber criminals are calling on the pretext of bank officials asking to dial a code. Once the code is dialed, all calls/SMS get forwarded to a new number. This enables them (fraudsters) to hack into your bank, e-wallet and social media account through the OTP (one-time password). Please do not dial any unverified codes on your phone,” SP Shobhit Saxena said in a message advising against the scam.

The advisory also speaks about call forward facility, being misused by some fraudsters. “Call forward facility enables user to transfer/forward the call when the customer is busy/phone switched off/out of network coverage area. Customer can enable this facility by dialing numbers provided by telecom service provider. However this service is being misused by some fraudsters,” it said.
