PANJIM: The State government has decided to hire private buses to transport students of government schools situated in remote areas.
Directorate of Education has introduced a scheme named ‘Scheme to provide hired private buses to the Government High Schools – 2016’, as per which each bus would be paid hire charges of Rs 2400 per day to cover a maximum of 80 kms. To ensure students’ safety, the government has said that only those buses whose date of manufacture would be less than three years would be hired.
“The scheme intends to provide transportation to the students studying in Government High Schools which are situated in remote talukas such as Pernem, Sattari and Sanguem where the students come from very remote and faraway places so also to strengthen the educational infrastructure of the State thereby catering to the need of the Government High Schools,” the notification issued by Education Director Gajanan Bhat reads.
Bhat has clarified that the hired buses will be required to ply on the route as determined by the school (PTA). “The hired bus is required to collect the children from the designated route and drop them to the designated school and vice-versa before the school hours and drop the school children till the last point of the designated route,” he said.
“The bus owner will be responsible for safety of the children from the time of boarding during journey and alighting from the bus,” director added.
