Schemes for STs notified

PANJIM: State government on Thursday notified three different schemes for the welfare and betterment of schedule tribe communities in Goa that include infrastructure development in these backward areas and financial assistance to their children.

PANJIM: State government on Thursday notified three different schemes for the welfare and betterment of schedule tribe communities in Goa that include infrastructure development in these backward areas and financial assistance to their children. 
The three schemes are the Adivasi Vikas Yojana for infrastructure development in tribal areas under tribal sub plan; scheme to support orphan child or children of widows; and scheme for empowering ST and schedule caste communities using information and communication technology. 
Under the infrastructure development scheme, financial assistance would be provided to village panchayats, zilla panchayats and municipalities with tribal population of 40 percent and above, for creation of new infrastructure, upgradation and one-time maintenance for the benefit of village communities. 
Government has also said that in case of urgency and realizing importance of any project, it may reduce the criteria of tribal population to 30 percent on the recommendation of the sanctioning committee headed by Tribal Minister. 
Directorate of Tribal Welfare has been asked to prepare and notify list of areas having 40 and 30 percent tribal population for availing the benefit. 
The scheme for empowering ST and SC communities using Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools through 40 IT knowledge centres operated by Infotech Corporation of Goa Limited (ITG) under Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) and Scheduled Caste Sub Plan (SCSP) has been notified for three years. 
The objective of this scheme is to empower ST and SC communities using ICT tools by providing IT skilled based training programmes in the state which will help to acquire desirable IT skills.
