Chief Minister Digambar Kamat has said that the government would start implementing schemes for the protection of traditional occupations in the state by March next year.
Speaking at the celebrations of the 125th year of Congress party organized by the South Goa district Congress Committee, the Chief Minister said the government has accepted in toto the report of the one-man committee headed by Dr Nandakumar Kamat.
He said the government would financially support two traditional occupants initially before extending the financial support to the other occupations, giving relief to nearly 50,000 families across the state.
Saying that his government is committed towards the welfare of the common  man, the Chief Minister spoke of the various schemes launched by his government, including the recent health care scheme. “The government has launched so many schemes and now it is time for the party workers to take the schemes to the door steps of the common man”, he said.
GPCC President Subhash Shirodkar said the party would hold booth level meetings within the next five months to strengthen the party at the grass root level. Saying the grass root workers are the real pillars of the party, Shirodkar said the party leadership would further strengthen the organization at the booth level.
In his address, Rajya Sabha MP Shantaram Naik also underlined the need to strengthen the party at the grass-root level to take the various central and state government’s schemes to the door steps of the people.
Congress Working Committee member and former Chief Minister, Luizinho Faleiro said there is not other political party  other than the Congress to keep all sections of society united and take the country to greater heights.
Referring to the bogey of corruption raised by the opposition parties, Faleiro said the Congress has the tenacity to give good governments at the Centre as well as in Goa.
