School librarians urge CM for salary hike

PANJIM: A group of school librarians met Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and requested him to hike their monthly salary and to provide job security to them.

A total of 43 librarians working in various schools across the State met the Chief Minister at his Sankhali residence. Later they said that though their salary is fixed at Rs 14,000 per month they are presently paid lump sum amount of Rs 1.4 lakh at the completion of their 10-month contract period.

According to these librarians they have been working on contract basis since last five years. They urged the Chief Minister to ensure that they receive their salary on monthly basis with extension of 11-month contract and also to give yearly increment.

There are about 200 schools which had engaged the services of librarians on contract basis in 2016. But around 130 librarians are presently working in various government aided-schools and the remaining schools are yet to renew the contract of some of the librarians since the last academic year.
