Schoolboy drowns off Colva beach

Class 10 student Vailankino Pinto’s body washed up on Gonsua beach in Betalbatim on Friday evening

MARGAO: Vailankino Pindo, a 15-year-old boy from Colva’s 4th Ward, drowned at Colva beach on Friday afternoon . He was a 10th-grade student and was on Diwali vacation.

The police recovered Vailankino’s lifeless body at Gonsua beach in Betalbatim. His remains have been sent to the South Goa District Hospital for a post-mortem examination. According to the police, Vailankino had gone to the beach with three friends after a game of football. While playing, they decided to take a dip in the sea, but they were soon caught in a strong current. Although his three companions managed to swim back to the shore, Vailankino was swept away by the powerful waves and couldn’t make it back.

Local fishermen made efforts to locate him, using their nets in the search, but their attempts were in vain. The three friends quickly informed the lifeguards about the incident. Later in the evening, the police discovered Vailankino’s body at Betalbatim. A case of unnatural death registered under section 174 of the CrPC.
