Schools disperse early on Friday due to intense heat

On Friday, several schools made the decision to dismiss students earlier than scheduled due to the intense heat. This decision has been prompted by parents’ concerns regarding their children’s well-being amidst extreme temperatures and the delay of rains. Parents have even requested that the government postpone the start of classes by at least a week to allow for more favourable weather conditions.

The National Student’s Union of India (NSUI) Goa unit had urged the Directorate of Education (DoE) demanding to postpone the ongoing school classes for a week owing to heat wave-like conditions across State. NSUI Goa Unit President Naushad Chowdhari said that State is currently witnessing heat wave-like conditions and there is also a delay in the onset of monsoon.

He said that the soaring temperature has created an environment of discomfort and health risk, especially for school kids, who spend a significant amount of their time in the classroom and school premises. “The heat wave-like conditions not only affect the physical well-being of the children but also hampers their concentration and learning abilities,” Chowdhari said in the letter.

As the heatwave continues to grip the State, parents and educators remain committed to safeguarding the welfare of students. Their collective voices have drawn attention to the urgent need for measures to address the adverse effects of extreme temperatures. The government’s response to this issue will play a crucial role in ensuring the well-being of students and shaping the educational landscape in the days ahead.
