PANJIM: Light rains and a cloud cover did not dampen the mood of students as they rushed to make it to school before the bell as schools re-opened for the new academic year 2015-16 on Monday.
Schools were earlier scheduled to re-open on June 4, but this was postponed to June 8, by the government ‘due to unavoidable circumstances.’
Panjim-based Dr K B Hedgewar School, however, rescheduled its re-opening to June 15 since its new premises at Cujira complex are yet to get final touches. The high school will be the first institution to begin the academic year from the new complex to be followed by Dempo Charities Trust’s Arts, Science and Commerce HSS on June 22.
Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar has said that 80 per cent primary and middle school students have received text books and notebooks.
Last year 96,139 students attended primary schools, while 1,46,762 students attended secondary schools and 34,336 students attended HSSs.
Traffic snarls in Ponda as schools spring to life
PONDA: The schools that bore an abandoned looks for the past two months sprang to life on Monday when crowds of eager students turned up to begin the new academic year.
Ponda witnessed many traffic and parking problems as anxious parents wanted to escort their children into the school and wait until they were settled inside.
The students, most of who were bored after the two-month gap, were eager to meet their friends and teachers, and start higher studies in a new class. Some parents have already enrolled their students in coaching classes.
