PANJIM: The Science Express Train on the theme ‘Climate Action Special’, an innovative mobile science exhibition mounted on a 16 coach AC train, will arrive at Margao on July 11 and be stationed there till July 13.
A flagship programme of the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India, the train has become the largest, longest running and most visited mobile science exhibition and has 12 entries in the Limca Book of Records.
“The exhibition is open to all and free for viewing. The exhibition conveys messages about climate change and is a good opportunity to generate dialogue and discussion,” a statement from the government states.
The current tour is being exhibited at 68 stations across India, covering 19000 km and focuses on Climate Change and Science & Technology.
Eight coaches of the SECAS exhibition are devoted to information, case studies and material related to various aspect of climate change, the underlying science, impacts, adaptation activities, mitigation solutions and policy approaches in a manner that is easy to understand and interesting for not just school students but also the masses.
There is a special Kids Zone for children from Class 5 and below to participate in activities, games and puzzles, besides a coach on The Joy of Science (JOS) with a hands-on lab where students from Class 6 to 10 can perform experiments to understand concepts in environment, science and mathematics in an interesting manner. A training facility is also set up for orientation of teachers.
