A scientist from the Kaiga atomic power station has been reported missing since Monday.
According to reports, the missing person is identified as one Mahalingam, who was working at the power station as a trainer to freshers and was incharge of the dummy control room.
The entire activity of power production at Kaiga is managed through a control room, in which all equipment, right from production to any emergency controls, is installed. A dummy control room is also installed where the freshers are trained. Mahalingam was residing at Mallapur colony and was in habit of going for a morning walk regularly.
Mahalingam left his house in the morning but did not return home. After waiting for his arrival for some time, family members went out in search of him at his usual place, but failed to trace him.
His wife finally lodged a complaint with Mallapur police. Acting on the complaint, Mallapur police went in search of him and suspecting suicide, they even searched for him in a nearby pond, but could not trace him.
Superintendent of Police Ramana Kumar Gupta visited the spot and interacted with Cen tral Industrial Security Force (CISF) officials and Kaiga officials about the missing scientist.
Since the Kaiga atomic power station is a highly sensitive site, which could be a target for terrorists, locals were quick to speculate that Mahalingam may have been abducted by some terrorist group.
