MARGAO: Shadow Council for Margao (SCM) Convenor Savio Coutinho on Saturday repeated his appeal to the State government to have additional vaccination centres in Margao as the number of COVID positive cases are increasing in the town.
He had earlier appealed to the government to set up additional vaccination centres on May 8.
He lamented that at Margao which is the District Headquarters, there is only one centre for vaccination which is the Urban Health Centre and its Sub Office at the T B Hospital while in neighbouring places like Navelim there are three centres.
He also expressed surprise that none of the councillors of Margao Municipal Council have asked for vaccination centre in their area even though Margao is such a huge place and people living at the boundaries of the town would find it difficult to visit the Urban Health Centre or the T B Hospital.
He further pointed out that Margao has a population of nearly one lakh people and argued that one vaccination centre cannot attend to such a huge population while neighbouring villages with population of only 40,000 have more than one centre.
He demanded that additional vaccination centre be set up in the MMC premises at Malbhat which is currently lying idle besides also suggesting setting up such centre at MCC hall and BPS Club premises.
