MARGAO: Reacting to the wall collapse incident at the Solid Waste Management Treatment plant at Sonsoddo, the Shadow Council for Margao (SCM) has criticised the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) for the expenditure incurred in the entire waste management process.
The SCM also criticised MMC for ignoring its warnings about the condition of the accumulated waste inside the plant despite recent fires posing a threat. “Last fortnight, the fire incident exposed the MMC over the piled up dry waste mound. Today’s wall collapse has exposed the fraud of segregated waste collection which costs MMC over 30 lakh per month towards the payment of bills of private agency’s engaged for segregated waste collection,” said SCM convenor Savio Coutinho. “We fail to believe that after having technically qualified people at the municipality, they choose to pile up the waste in the shed, attaining height of over 8 to 10 metres,” he added.
