PONDA: A scooterist and a pillion rider had a lucky escape after the two-wheeler on which they were travelling caught fire in Ponda city on Sunday.
According to a mechanic near Aaisha Theatre Ponda, Uttam Curtikar and his family member from Azoshi-Sonarbhat, Old Goa, had gone to Ponda for some personal work on the scooter. However, as the scooter developed some problem, Uttam took the scooter for repairs.
When Uttam and the pillion rider alighted from the scooter to show the mechanic to find out the problem, the scooter suddenly caught fire. Locals present at the site rushed to help. The fire tender personnel, who rushed to the site and doused the fire, estimated the loss at Rs 20,000.
