PONDA: In a road accident in Usgao, Somnath alias Suraj Thanekar, 30, sustained injuries when his scooter collided with a wild boar. The accident took place in Par-Usgao, when Thanekar was en route to Farmagudi on his scooter. The boar later succumbed to its injuries.
Thanekar was promptly taken to the Sub District Hospital in a private vehicle for medical attention. Simultaneously, some individuals at the accident site attempted to pick up the injured wild boar, presumably for consumption. Forest Department personnel quickly intervened, and were able to rescue the large animal with the help of labourers.
The injured boar was transported to the Animal Welfare Department office in Curti for treatment. Unfortunately, despite efforts to save the animal, it succumbed to severe injuries sustained in the collision. The injured rider was later discharged from hospital.
