VASCO: It was a major relief for PWD (roads division) officials after the South Central Railways (SCR) finally permitted to undertake excavation work to lay heavy duty pavers below the railway bridge near St Andrew’s Church junction, Vasco.
Residents in the area were also relieved as the telephone lines, which along with sewage pipes were damaged during reckless excavation work, were repaired by the Telephone department, while the PWD (Sewage) department has begun replacing the ruptured sewage pipeline with a new pipeline.
However, work to fit the heavy duty pavers below the railway bridge will commence only after the PWD (sewage) division lays the new sewage pipeline. Till the work is completed, the road is closed to all traffic and vehicles are diverted via Baina.
It may be recalled that excavation work by the PWD was halted by railway officials on Monday, on grounds that the PWD had failed to secure permission from the SCR office to undertake the work.
The telephone line and sewage pipeline were damaged while the road excavation work was in progress, further delaying the project.
