COLVA: The Colva gram sabha on Sunday demanded the scrapping of the hastily passed Goa Bhumiputra Adhikarini Bill 2021 during the three-day Goa Legislative Assembly session held in July.
Colva sarpanch Johnson Coelho and panchayat secretary Amol Tilve said, “The Goa Bhumiputra Adhikarini Bill 2021 was vociferously opposed by everyone with only one ward member supporting this Bill during the fortnightly panchayat body meeting.”

Another major issue that was raised during this gram sabha pertained to the stray cattle in the village as well as the bad road condition of the main road towards Kharebhand due to digging by the PWD Sewerage Department for the purpose of laying the sewerage line.
“The Sernabatim-Gaundalim-Colva village panchayat has already written to the concerned authorities, besides the PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar and local Benaulim NCP MLA Churchill Alemao regarding this matter. But till date, we have not received any reply though Alemao had reassured that the work would be undertaken after the monsoons subside only after a video went viral. However, the gram sabha members are now demanding that the repair works be undertaken at the earliest,” said Coelho.
Eight panchayat members of the nine member panchayat were present for the gram sabha.
The Gram Sabha members also raised their queries regarding the sewerage treatment plant (STP), the illegal mobile kiosks and the village panchayat owned football ground in the paddy fields near the panchayat. The villagers sought to know why a fresh NOC is not issued regarding the mobile kiosks.
