SAG officials said the department had cleared the file for disposal of the scrap material months ago. And, the file, sources in SAG say, is doing the rounds in the PWD for approval of the rates, before the same is disposed of by auction.
A SAG official sought to blame the PWD for the long delay in giving the technical nod to hold the auction and dispose of the scrap. “We are helpless in the matter since we have to depend on the PWD to dispose of the scrap. It will be lifted after the auction,” the official said.
The dumping of scrap material, generated during the renovation of the Nehru stadium ahead of the Lusofonia Games, has turned into an eyesore. While the scrap turned out a perfect breeding site for mosquitoes last year, it’s not uncommon to now find snakes taking shelter in the scrap material, sources said.
