PANJIM: A group of candidates, who had appeared for various technical posts of Public Works Department (PWD), have demanded scrapping of the entire recruitment process alleging manipulation in selection process.
The candidates — appeared for the post of Junior Engineer (JE) and Technical Engineer (TE) and cleared the exam but failed to get selected due to lower marks, on Saturday held a press conference in Panjim and demanded that fresh Computer Based Recruitment Test (CBRT) should be conducted.
A three-member Vigilance Department inquiry is currently underway into the alleged recruitment scam in the department. BJP MLA Atanasio Monserrate had alleged the recruitment scam in PWD is worth Rs 70 crore.
The candidates, gathered at Azad Maidan said that there is a complete manipulation and “setting” in the selection process. They highlighted how every selected candidate has scored above 92 marks, whereas the second or third ranker has scored below 70.
Also, there are candidates, who had applied for both – JE and TE posts. However, while one they managed to clear with a merit marks above 90; in the other case, failed to get even 50.
“How can there be such a vast difference in the performance, considering that both the papers were equally tough. This can happen, only because, the posts were set in advance, for each candidate,” they alleged.
The candidates have urged the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant to scrap all the posts and fresh recruitment process, through Staff Selection Committee be conducted. They also said that they have no faith in the Vigilance Department inquiry.
Earlier this week, several candidates, who claimed to have been selected for various posts on merit basis, marched to Chief Minister’s residence and submitted a representation demanding that the vigilance inquiry be expedited and their recruitment process be continued.
