PANJIM: Accusing the BJP government of having allegedly accumulated over Rs 300 crore by selling Police Sub-Inspector (PSIs) and Constable jobs, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) has demanded to scrap the ongoing process of recruitment within eight days and start fresh involving Staff Selection Commission under monitoring of the High Court.
While addressing the media persons on Saturday, GPCC President Girish Chodankar said that if the government fails to scrap the process, then his party will approach court with evidence, which will prove that BJP has sold the jobs compromising the whole process of recruitment.
Presidents of Goa Youth Congress Varad Mardolkar, Seva Dal and National Student Union of India (NSUI) were present for the media briefing.
“Future of youth has been sold for lakhs of rupees by selling jobs in the open market. Exams are compromised and the whole process is manipulated by the BJP. Rs 30 to 35 lakh are demanded for PSI posts and Rs 15 lakh for constable posts,” said Chodankar.
“Chief Minister’s Office has appointed a Public Recovery Officer to deal with the collection towards sale of jobs. Despite outcry by the public over this issue, the Chief Minister is mum, which means he has accepted that job sale is going on,” Chodankar added further.
Chodankar further stated that the Congress has prepared an action plan to stop the modus operandi of BJP as youth are looted and candidates with merit are deprived of jobs and are getting frustrated.
He also gave an example of how Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes’ son had produced fake certificates for the “Avval Karkun post”, which was later scrapped.
“(Deputy Chief Minister) Chandrakant Kavlekar had openly accepted that other MLAs take money for jobs and only he doesn’t take. Fisheries Minister Filipe Neri’s Personal Assistant and Chief Minister’s supporters are getting 100 out of 100 marks for job exams. How will they justify it,” he questioned.
He also said that the State government had not rejected this, which he said meant that these charges are true.
He gave examples of how 32 employees — Assistant Data Operators in the Electricity Department, were sacked after court direction due to proven irregularities.
“No action was taken on the officers and those conducting exams for these posts. Process of the exam was compromised,” Chodankar lamented.
He also warned the officers not to compromise the exams on the behest of corrupt Ministers and corrupt Chief Minister such as allowing exam sheets to be taken home.
He further alleged that candidates, who pay for jobs, are told to either leave the answer sheet blank or take it to home to answer later.
“This is the modus operandi of such exams. These answers are then later written by the examiner or candidate at home,” said Chodankar while giving further examples of such incidents.
