PANJIM: The Congress on Thursday strongly demanded scrapping of the sunset clause from the Agriculture Tenancy Act in the forthcoming monsoon session, failing which the party will launch a mass agitation in the State. Congress has asserted that the matter will be raised by the Congress legislators in the assembly.
Addressing the media, party spokesperson Yatish Naik said, “The sunset clause in the Agriculture Tenancy Act will lead to the sunset of tenants and Goan identity, therefore Congress demands this amendment to the Tenancy Act be taken away in the forthcoming assembly session, failing which Congress will launch a mass agitation in the state.”
Claiming that opening of the outline development plan (ODP) is a political exercise by the BJP-led government, Naik said, “BJP is working against the interests of the state. ODP is against the Goan identity.”
Highlighting the RBI report which claims that Goa’s per capita debt has reached nearly Rs 1 lakh, Naik said, “The State BJP government has failed to bring any financial package to the state from the Centre to help the state recover from the financial crisis and also the Centre has failed to provide any financial package to the state. The faulty policies of the BJP government have also further encouraged inflation of essential commodities and food products.”
Referring to objections raised by BJP leader Dattaprasad Naik on the Taleigao ODP, the Congress spokesperson said, “Even the BJP leaders are now aware that there is inner conspiracy in the party in plotting ODP. This is a big conspiracy against the Goan identity.”
Naik also objected to the government’s move to bring in marinas, seaplane and amphibian vessels. Naik said, “Goa’s marine life and land mass is ecologically rich. Marinas, seaplane and amphibian vessels will affect the ecology of the state. It will also affect the identity of Goa.”
