Scrap the jetty policy, no need for additional jetties in Goa, say local fishermen

Goenchea Ramponkarancho Ekvott and other fishermen’s organizations have demanded the scrapping of the Jetty Policy. “Do you want to finish tourism? What is the need for additional jetties? Are jetties only for tourism or for coal?” fishermen asked.  “There is no clarity on where the new jetties will be built, Olencio Simoes, General Secretary Goenchea Ramponkarancho Ekvott. He alleged that the rivers have no carrying capacity for additional jetties and this will destroy Goa.

The fishermen also stated that the Mhadei water diversion carrying capacity of rivers has gone down and dredging will destroy rivers. in addition, current jetties are also under-utilized, and with jetties every 5 km it will lead to the destruction of rivers
