MARGAO: Goa Pradesh Mahila Congress President Pratima Coutinho has demanded the cancellation of the ‘traffic sentinel’ scheme launched by the police saying that it is abused and misused.
She said that if the Congress comes to power, the Mahila Congress would demand its cancellation.
Briefing media persons, she demanded that the government immediately do away with the social policing and instead employ more traffic police to fine people for driving without helmet or using mobile while driving or any other offences.
“The woman’s security and safety is at stake as anybody can take her photograph and could probably morph it for some nefarious purpose,” she said she is opposed to public being allowed to take photographs of anybody.
She argued that college students are very vulnerable and could be victims of some perverted minds who could misuse photographs sent under the Sentinel scheme and asserted that if the Congress comes to power the Mahila Congress would demand the scrapping of this scheme.
“The government would do well to come out with a sentinel scheme to catch matka bookies instead of targeting motorists,” she said.
