PANJIM: Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai on Thursday said that the scrap yards from Chandrawado in Fatorda, would be relocated in the local industrial estate.
Vijai was addressing an event organised by Phoenix Sports Club, Chandrawado, on the occasion of Children’s Day.
He said that the long pending demand of the locals to shift out the scrap yards from Chandrawado would finally be met, providing clean environment to the people living in the locality.
“Whenever I address a function at Chandrawado, there are comments on Facebook asking me ‘When will I eliminate scrap yards from here?’ We have decided to eliminate scrap from Chandrawado during this term,” Vijai said addressing the event.
Recalling how four years ago, locals from Chandrawado insisted that the illegal garbage dust-bin in this ward be removed, Vijai said the forward thinking locals then insisted that the place be changed from a “muhalla to a smart city.”
“Therefore, we decided that we will bring in all the modern amenities here and then the garden was constructed. It was inaugurated on Children’s Day and since then it has become a tradition to celebrate that day here,” he said.
He appreciated the locals for setting up a gymnasium, due to which, he said, Muslim women who were earlier reluctant to come out and exercise in such facilities have started doing it.
“If we need to go forward, then we will have to emulate the progressive ideas. We are committed to hold on to progressive ideas,” he added.
