Scrap yards demolished in Karaswada
MAPUSA: Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) on Wednesday demolished four illegal scrap yards that had come up along the National Highway 17 at Karaswada-Mapusa. According to MMC officials, the scrap yards were declared illegal as they had encroached on the national highway. “Scrap yards along the national highway from Karaswada to Colvale are increasing day-by-day and have become a menace from a traffic point of view. These scrap yards have come up on agricultural and government land and hence, the MMC was forced to demolish them,” informed an official. Though MMC had demolished the scrap yards in the past, some more scrap yards surfaced after some time. MMC will not allow scrap yards on this stretch of road an official warned.
