MARGAO: Taking strong exception to the decision of the South Goa Planning and Development Authority to scrap the wholesale fish market sopo tender, agitated boat owners have said they were weighing various options to oppose the PDA decision.
Cutbona Boat Owners Union President Seby Cardozo told Herald that the SGPDA cannot take a decision to scrap the sopo tender when the bid quoted by the boat owners is the highest. “We are shocked and disappointed over the decision of the SGPDA to scrap the tender. It appears that the tender has been scrapped with ulterior motives. This is a great injustice done to the boat owners and the traditional fishermen. We are exploring various options”, Seby said.
The boat owners from Cutbona are likely to meet on Monday and are expected to take a stand on the issue as to how to go about the job. “We intend to call on the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar first before chalking out the next course of action. The Chief Minister had promised us that he would call for the sopo tender file from the SGPDA. We will now first inquire with the CM’s office before taking the next decision”, Seby said.
