PANJIM: The Bombay High Court at Goa has asked the State government to file its reply to the petition filed by the candidates selected by the Public Works Department (PWD) for various posts.
As many as 120 job applicants have filed a petition challenging the scrapping of the PWD posts that were advertised and processed ahead of the 2022 Assembly elections.
The PWD had advertised to fill posts including junior engineers, technical assistants and others. But following allegations by some of the ruling party MLAs including Atanasio Babush Monserrate that the posts were sold and that there was a recruitment scam in the PWD to the extent of Rs 70 crore. Following this, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant ordered an inquiry and kept the recruitment process on hold.
A three-member committee of IAS officers conducted an inquiry into the alleged recruitment scam and the 360-odd posts of junior engineers and technical assistants which were kept on hold were scrapped subsequently.
The selected candidates have now challenged the scrapping of the posts and that the government has done injustice to them and have prayed that the government decision is set aside and that they are recruited.
