Traffic Notice branch now in Margao
PANJIM: The Goa Traffic Police will now also accept penalty amounts at Notice Branch at South District Police Headquarters, Margao. This will facilitate traffic violators from South District to compound the violations within 30 days, after which the cases will be sent to the concerned court. This has been done after taking into consideration the travelling time involved and inconvenience caused to traffic violators from South who have to approach Notice Branch at Altinho Panjim. Presently the traffic violations reported by police officers and those captured on CCTVs are being issued notices u/s 133 of MV Act, 1988 by Notice Branches located at Panjim and Margao. 
Paul receives Young Paedodontist Award
PANJIM: Dr Paul Chalakkal was awarded the Young Paedodontist Award at the inaugural ceremony of the 36th National Paedodontics conference at Lucknow on October 14. This award is presented to the most meritorious young Paedodontist in India. He was also elected as an executive committee member of the ISPPD (Indian Society of Paedodontics and Preventive Dentistry). Dr Paul, is a lecturer at Goa Dental College and Hospital and received the Most Proactive Academician Award earlier this year. He currently holds 20 Pubmed indexed publications patents, and has won four consecutive best presentation awards at ISPPD National conferences.                                                                                                                      
Doctorate for Puttaraju
PANJIM: S T Puttaraju, who is the Chief Town Planner and joint Secretary, Town and Country Planning department, has been awarded a Doctorate degree by the University of Mysore, for his thesis ‘Conservation of fragile environment: A planning study of mining region of Goa.’ The thesis focuses on mining issue of Goa and has suggested, recommended criteria for analyzing holding capacity of the region, carrying capacity of the region and sustainable mining period for Goa. It also gives formula for annual capping of production. 
Rhythmic breathing sessions
PANJIM: A beginners’ session by Venkat in English/Konkani on the three step rhythmic breathing, will be held on October 26, from 11 am to 1 pm at Loyola School, Margao and on Oct 28 from 6.30 pm to 7 pm at Ganapati temple, first floor, St Cruz. The sessions will help participants discover the correct natural breathing pattern. Daily practice sessions are held at Joggers Park stage, Altinho, Panjim from 6 am to 6.15 am and also at Garden stage, behind Trinity Esperanca Hospital, Miramar from 7.15 am to 7.45 am. 
Balotsav at Sanguem from October 27
PANJIM: The Directorate of Art and Culture, jointly with West Zone Cultural centre, Udaipur will organize the five-day Balotsav (children festival) at Government HSS, Sanguem, from October 27 to 31, from 9.30 am to 1 pm. This festival will benefit students in the area of craft, theatre, songs, etc. The children will be trained in Bandhani, puppet making, bead work, theatre. The inauguration will be on October 27 at 10 am. 
Talk on atherosclerosis, coronary artery diseases on October 25
PANJIM: YMCA Women’s Forum Panjim will be organizing a free talk on Atherosclerosis and Coronary Artery Diseases by Dr Edwin Gomes, Head of Department of Medicine, GMC on October 25, at 4.30 pm at YMCA International Goa, behind Campal parade ground, Campal, Panjim. 
Governor releases book
PANJIM: The Governor Mridula Sinha released a book titled ‘Inside Mortar and Pestle’ at a function at Goa College of Pharmacy. The Konkani book ‘Kodu Kasai’ is authored by Dr Madhukar Joshi and the same translated in English as ‘Inside Mortar and Pestle’ by Neeraja Vaidhya. Sinha said that India has a great legacy of saints and sagas who have contributed to the field of medicine. She complimented Dr Madhukar Joshi on this occasion.   Leisel Fernandes presented insight of the book while Arun Naik Chairman Management Council welcomed the guests and Razia Sultana compered the function.
