PANJIM: A scuffle broke out between members of the BJP and the Goa Suraksha Manch (GSM) on Sunday evening outside the Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium in Bambolim where BJP National President addressed the booth level workers.
Situation turned tensed when BJP supporters confronted the GSM group. However, the police took control of the situation.
According to the GSM members, when their supporters were leaving the venue, a BJP supporter Akhil Parrikar, who was passing by, stopped and started abusing the GSM workers and later there were arguments between the BJP and GSM workers. In this regard, the party has also filed a police complaint with the Agassaim police station.
On the other hand, BJP supporter Akhil Parrikar in his police complaint stated that while on his way to the stadium, his vehicle was stopped by a mob of protesters from the GSM. While he was attacked with water bottles, one of the bottles hit his mother.
The GSM members during their protest were seen waving black flags near the venue of Shah’s workers’ meeting as they were upset over the reported statement of Shah during Karnataka election rally in which he had assured to provide Mhadei water to the farmers within six months, if the party is voted to power.
“We want to convey to Shah that Goa does not welcome his statement on Mhadei. Both the states are fighting the case in Mhadei Water Dispute Tribunal,” GSM president Anand Shirodkar told reporters.
He said the protest was symbolic to convey the message to Shah.
The protestors, who were walking towards Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium, were stopped 300 metres away by the police.
