SDM urged to call for meet to put disaster management plan in place

MARGAO, JUNE 29 Fomento has asked the District Magistrate, South to call a meeting of concerned officials to put a disaster management plan in place for the Sonsodo dumping yard. In a letter, Fomento has pointed out that a disaster management plan for Sonsodo is all the more necessary as garbage dumping sites have been hit by methane and other gases.

Fomento has asked the District Magistrate, South to call a meeting of concerned officials to put a disaster management plan in place for the Sonsodo dumping yard.
In a letter, Fomento has pointed out that a disaster management plan for Sonsodo is all the more necessary as garbage dumping sites have been hit by methane and other gases.
Meanwhile, the Goa Pollution Control Board has fixed hearing next week on the authorization sought by the Margao Municipal Council to set up a waste treatment plant at Sonsodo.
The Pollution Control Board is believed to have told the Margao Civic body to ask Fomento to attend the hearing with the project report and other details.
Pollution Control Board officials has also called for a site inspection of the Sonsodo dump yard before issuing the authorization.
Meanwhile, the Margao Municipal Council has said that Fomento has so till date not returned back to the Civic body the draft Concession Agreement.
Sources in the know said the draft concession agreement has not been returned to the Civic body till date to facility the body to place the same before the Council for ratification.
The delay in returning of the draft concession agreement, however, has not come in the way of Fomento’s working at Sonsodo. The company has covered the Sonsodo dumping site with Tarpaulin and a 30-member gang of workers are closely monitoring the situation in view of the monsoons.
Fomento CEO Shridhar Kamat has said that the company has received the conveyor belt and is awaiting the arrival of a trommel at the site for screening of the dumped waste.
