PANJIM: Seafarer Captain Venzy Veigas, from Carmona village has filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) before the High Court of Bombay at Goa seeking to declare Goan Seafarers as Frontline workers in the State and prioritise their vaccination. The petition is expected to come up for hearing on Friday, May 28 or Monday, May 31.
The petition states that Goa government has not alloted any vaccines to Mormugao Port Trust and has neither shown any concern towards Goan seafarers while the government also lacks complete foresight. There is no pro activeness on the part of the government, it states.
The petitioner had earlier appealed to the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant bro consider seafarers as frontline workers on lines with its order declaring pharma employees, its owners and lifeguards, etc in this category.
Absence of this is leading to job crisis and financial insecurities for Goan seafarers.
