Goa Seamen Association of India (GSAI) has issued a clarion call to all seafarers to assemble outside NUSI Chinchinim on Monday.
On Sunday, more than 100 seafarers held a meeting in Chinchinim and met Velim MLA Benjamin Silva who has also been invited for the NUSI felicitation function to be held tomorrow evening, which will be graced by the Union minister and NUSI general secretary.
The seafarers who have been long demanding for an audience with Abdulgani are upset that they were not informed of the visit even though there are thousands of seafarers who live in Chinchinim.
“Our Goan seafarers will question NUSI general secretary about the promises made to the retired seamen and widows a few years ago that he will increase ex-gratia amount but nothing happened. We are also very disappointed and upset with the attitude of NUSI towards Goan seafarers,” said GSAI president Dixon Vaz.
Vaz expects around 300 seafarers at least to meet the NUSI General secretary.
