CUNCOLIM: Finally the long pending demand of National Union of Seafarers of India (NUSI) to give benefit of Provident Fund (PF), gratuity and pension to Seafarers was accepted by the Director General of Shipping (DGS) in the Board meeting of Seamen’s Provident Fund held on January 11.
About four-lakh odd seafarers working on Indian and foreign ships of all ranks right from Officer Grade, Petty Officers, ratings and other ranks of Seafarers on both Indian flag and foreign flag are likely to benefit. NUSI, seafarers and family members of seafarers have welcomed this decision and have appreciated and thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Minister of Shipping Mansukh Mandaviya for fulfilling their long pending demand.
NUSI was fighting to meet these three demands for the last three decades. More than 25,000 under the guidance of NUSI had petitioned the Prime Minister to resolve this pending demand.
