PANJIM: Following complaints from general public regarding possibility of clandestine sale of liquor by wholesalers and other licence holders, the State government has ordered sealing of all the liquor premises and godowns till May 3.
In a circular, Excise Commissioner Amit Satija has directed Superintendent of Excise and Excise Inspectors to keep strict vigil on all other types of liquor licences and their movement.
“There are complaints received from the general public and other government departments regarding possibility of clandestine sale of liquor by the wholesale and other licences during the lockdown period of COVID-19,” Satija said.
“Hence all the Superintendent of Excise and Excise Inspectors are hereby directed to seal the premises, godowns, bonds of all the units, wholesalers till lockdown period,” he added.
“If any complaint against the retailers is received, similar action will be taken against them,” Satija added.
Directions are also issued to keep vigil on movement of vehicles at the border, industrial areas, fisheries jetties and other such places of goods movement.
Commissioner had earlier said that there is absolute ban on sale of liquor through any medium in State as per the instructions of the government in view of COVID-19.
