Addressing the media, GSAI Assistant Secretary Franklyn D’Costa has appreciated the positive stand of the BJP government and Union Minister for Shipping Nitin Gadkari in fulfilling the long-standing demand of the Indian seafarers. “As we know, NUSI was demanding for no income tax for Indian seafarers working on Indian flagships. NUSI had taken up this matter of all Indian seafarers with government of India and with various departments of the Ministry of Shipping, Directors of Shipping and Ministry of Labour. NUSI had taken up the matter strongly with the new BJP government, which has assured to give justice to the seafarers,” he said.
Seamen exempted of I-Tax
MARGAO: The Goan Seamen Association of India (GSAI) on Saturday said the Government of India has accepted the demand of the NUSI to exempt Indian seafarers working on Indian flag ships from paying Income tax.
